Though consumer costs for copywriting services are often based on an hourly fee schedule, certain variables can influence the applicable rate unless outlined in a lump sum agreement:

- the type or genre of assignment;

- the extent and flexibility/complexity of a job;

- the required research, if any;

- the customer's deadline;

In some cases, services can be offered against a lump sum or all inclusive agreement, if the agreed upon total is paid in advance.
